SOUTH COAST GRAB BAR: A Husband & Wife Clinical Partnership

The Foundation: 40 Years of Commitment

SOUTH COAST GRAB BAR isn’t just a business; it’s a family mission built on a 40-year marriage and a shared lifetime of service. Founded by James Porzio, COTA, and Marylou Porzio, RN, our company represents a unique fusion of high-level nursing care and specialized occupational therapy expertise. We understand that home safety isn’t just about hardware—it’s about protecting the people you love.

The Construction & Clinical Intersection: James Porzio, COTA

James brings a rare "dual-brain" approach to every project. Before entering healthcare, he spent 12 years in the building and remodeling trades. He knows exactly what is behind your tile, fiberglass, and drywall because he has spent decades building those walls from the studs out.

In 1996, James transitioned into healthcare as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). For the last 28 years, he has merged his carpentry skills with clinical precision. Having worked directly with patients inside their homes for nearly a decade, he sees the home environment through the eyes of a therapist, identifying barriers before they become accidents.

The Nursing Perspective: Marylou Porzio, RN

Complementing the technical and therapeutic side is Marylou’s extensive background as a Registered Nurse. Graduating in 1995, Marylou brings over 30 years of clinical insight to the family team. Her deep understanding of patient recovery, medical stability, and long-term wellness ensures that our safety modifications meet the highest medical standards. Together, we evaluate home safety from both a mobility and a medical-necessity standpoint.

The Preemptive Strategy: Planning for the Future

We believe that the best time to secure a home is before a crisis occurs. Our philosophy is simple: Plan for the worst and hope for the best. Waiting for a fall to happen means you are already behind the curve. We often tell our clients that it is far better to have a safety system and not need it, than to need it and not have it. By implementing preemptive modifications now, we help homeowners mitigate hidden risks and maintain the freedom to age in place with dignity.

THE SOUTH COAST GRAB BAR Mission: Bridging the “48-Hour Safety Transition”

We specialize in the critical window between hospital discharge and the first clinical home visit. We don't just ‘install’ hardware; we perform a clinical intervention. Whether a patient has a neurological diagnosis requiring balance cues or an orthopedic recovery needing weight-bearing leverage, we ensure the environment is a tool for independence.

By combining the "Gold Standard" of nursing and occupational therapy, we provide the ultimate safety navigation for your family. From Moen SecureMount grab bars to custom stair handrails, our work is designed to help you age in place with security.
